As with many orthopaedic injuries, repetitive motion like throwing can create an excessively strong pull on elbow tendons and ligaments. Repeated pulling can also tear the ligament and tendon away from the bone and can even pull off tiny bone fragments. In the case of children, this can impact normal bone growth.
Symptoms
The symptoms of a throwing injury can include elbow pain, a reduced range of motion as well as the tendency of the elbow joint to lock.
Treatment Options
The most common treatments include resting the elbow and icing the affected area to reduce any swelling. Physical therapy may also be helpful.
