ONS Physiatry and Pain Management
Physiatry is a field of medicine that specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions that effect a persons ability to function in a normal capacity. Many musculoskeletal pain conditions, including back, neck and joint problems, may be managed over time through conservative treatment using a variety of pain modalities and customized programs to enhance mobility and avoid surgery. Physiatry may also be used to optimize a patient’s condition pre or post surgery.
As people seek ways of dealing with their aches and pains, which are often associated with active and stress-effected lifestyles. Physiatry and pain management centers are playing an increasingly important role in health care. Although the field is only 60 years old, over 7,000 physiatrists are practicing in the United States today.
Interventional physiatry is a branch of physiatry that treats pain using precisely placed anti-inflammatory injections into the spine and pelvis guided by a specially equipped x-ray. These procedures are performed in our advanced on-site radiology suite and require special training.
